Background
The Assay Designs hROS Detection Reagent, Aminophenyl fluorescein (APF), is a selective indicator for highly reactive oxygen species (hROS). APF is a cell permeable dye that can be used to detect hydroxyradical, peroxynitrite, and hypochlorite production in cells. This novel fluorescent reagent has little reactivity towards other ROS such as singlet oxygen, superoxide, hydrogen peroxide, nitric oxide, and alkyl peroxide. APF itself is not very fluorescent, however when reacted with hROS strong dose dependent fluorescence is exhibited. This versatile detection reagent can be adapted for use in quick one-step homogenous high throughput fluorescent plate-based assays, immunofluorescent microscopy, or flow cytometry.
