Background
The DePsipher Kit detects mitochondrial membrane potential disruption in cells using a unique cationic dye that can be visualized using fluorescence/confocal microscopy or flow cytometry. The DePsipher dye readily enters cells and fluoresces brightly red in its multimeric form within healthy mitochondria. In apoptotic cells, the mitochondrial membrane potential collapses, and the DePsipher reagent cannot accumulate within the mitochondria. In these cells, DePsipher remains in the cytoplasm as a green fluorescent monomeric form. Apoptotic cells are therefore easily differentiated from healthy cells and visualized simultaneously.
