Transglutamases are Ca2+-dependent enzymes that catalyze the formation of cross-links between glutamine and lysine residues in a variety of proteins, and attaches other primary amines to peptide-bound glutamines. TGase II is ubiquitously expressed and has been implicated in apoptosis, stabilization of the extracellular matrix, and regulation of growth factors.
