Background
Granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF) is produced primarily by cells of monocyte/macrophage origin. It induces proliferation and differentiation of hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs), accelerates white blood cell repopulation following myelopsuppression due to radiation and chemotherapy, and mobilizes HSCs from the bone marrow to the peripheral blood.
