Background
GM-CSF (Granulocyte-macrophage colony stimulating factor) is a member of the IL-2/IL-4 cytokine family that has diverse functions in vivo and in vitro. Upon stimulation, T lymphocytes, macrophages, endothelial cells, fibroblasts, stromal cells, and other cell types including leukemic and various tumor cells produce GM-CSF. This cytokine participates in immune responses, hematopoiesis, and antimicrobial defense.
