Background
DC-SIGN (DC-specific ICAM-3-grabbing nonintegrin/CD209) is a type II transmembrane protein belonging to the C-type lectin family. It is a dendritic cell specific adhesion marker that regulates DC trafficking, T-cell synapse formation, and antigen capture. DC-SIGN participates in the capture of HIV-1, trapping viral particles in endosomes and enhancing their transport to lymph tissues and infection of T-cells.
