Background
The inhibitor of apoptosis-like protein-2 (ILP-2) is a member of the inhibitor of apoptosis (IAP) family of proteins which includes IAP, XIAP/ILP-1, and Livin/KIAP. ILP-2 inhibits programmed cell death by binding to processed caspase-9, thus potently inhibiting apoptosis induced by overexpression of Bax or coexpression of caspase-9 and Apaf-1.
